Welcome to the Wildcat Center!

The Wildcat Center is a group of people dedicated to learning, living and serving others with ways of living that:

  • provide healthy food, locally (and abundantly) produced
  • reduce or eliminate the need for petroleum
  • offer attainable, affordable means of living well to families and communities in changing times
  • help people trapped in poverty find their way out

Our projects focus on sustainable food and water, energy, tools and shelter.

Tomato
food & water
the Village Garden hosts the garden, experimental kitchen and agriculture teams, dedicated to releasing the abundance of creation to feed the nations (including this one), including alternative food plants, sustainable family-scale farming and gardening, in both rural and urban settings, for example:
  • biochar — using charcoal dust from agricultural plant waste and wood chips to dramatically and sustainably increase crop yield.
  • teff — the staple crop of Ethiopia. One pound of teff seed is enough to seed one acre, and produces 700-1,000 pounds of high quality grain.
Stirling Engine
tools, energy and shelter
the Village Workshop hosts the energy, engineering and construction teams, dedicated to learning about and using tools, alternative means of generating energy, and innovative materials and methods of constructing homes and other buildings, including things like:
  • straw-bale construction — using waste straw to make durable, warm, beautiful buildings for very little money
  • stoves & ovens — including solar cookers and rocket stoves, which require a fraction of the fuel of regular wood cooking fires or stoves, and eliminate most of the smoke, reducing the health hazards of kitchen smoke.

Participating

We're currently building both facilities and teams. Please get in touch if you'd like to participate. We're also building online team pages, so if you'd like to participate over the Web, drop us a line and we'll let you know when they're available. We're also available for talks to universities, schools and church groups.
