Village Garden

In the last half century, the world's food supply has come to be based on a tiny number of highly developed plants. 40% of the calories eaten by people in any given year are from just three plants - corn (or maize in British English), wheat and rice. 97% of annual calories come from just 30 plants. There are some 7-8,000 plants that are known to be nutritious. Very few are cultivated on any serious basis as food crops. Some are not used for good reasons, but many others are suitable for farming in just the places they're most needed. The agriculture, garden and experimental kitchen teams are dedicated to unlocking this treasure, to help feed the hungry.
